Today I received the following e-mail from someone who shall remain nameless:

"Im using your dinksdx-blue skin for windwowsblinds and i think it is really awful.
i love the tab with the controlls for winamp. the buttons for next song etc are working, but it doesn't display the title of the song which is playing. did i overread something i have to do to activate them?"

I answered his question regardless of his bad manners, but I'm amazed that people like this are out there. What can the logic be in insulting someone's hard work and then asking for help in using it? >

For those people who are having this problem, make sure you have at least version 4.00c of WindowBlinds.

That is the most contradictory statement I have read in quite awhile. Why would you be using a skin you think is "really awful" ? Oh well sounds like you handled it quite professionally, hopefully the person involved will see this thread and think twice next time about what they are writing.

Your common user can be very rude as someone who has no idea how things are made and they simply spend their time looking for the best of the best, all i say is if you dont like it, try it and when you have then come back to me and give me an honest opinion.

Personally Grayhaze i think your skin is ace

That is a really weird statement. First *it is really awful*, then *I love the tab*. And then he/she is wanting to configure it for better use.

It is so weird that it almost looks like a language problem, or maybe something like spell check stepping on with an off-the-wall word when it was checking artful. Or maybe an unskillful rendering of awesome. (awesome + Artful= awful?)

goodmorphing still cringes at the memory of the time she was sent to chase a dog out of the church yard. Having the terms ***SHOO*** and ***GET*** in mind, upon opening the door a truly unholy word was shrieked for all to hear.....

Though I have noticed that internet forums seems to have spawned some behaviors that I am sure would never happen face to face.

By the way, I am using that skin right now and it is amazing. Simply amazing. I haven't had the time to configure it just yet, but I will.

And people wonder why more and more people are not showing their email address. We all know your not along in this kind of BS as I'am sure a lot of skinners get their share.

I agree with WOM, there have been many times i've wanted to e-mail an author but to find no address

Well it looks like you could be right after all goodmorphing. I got a reply, and it seems that they thought the word 'awful' was the same as 'awesome'!

I really hope whoever taught English to this person doesn't teach a future diplomat for his country...

Thanks for the kind comments about the skin also. This wasn't really intended as a thread to showcase my skin, but more of a way of venting steam on another unpleasant mail. There really seems to be a backlash building against the skin in certain quarters since I released it, but I guess that's always the way when something does quite well. The majority of the bad comments seem to have come from MSStyle worshippers though, who perhaps are unhappy that I allowed WindowBlinds to show up their beloved format for the dated wannabe it now is.

Sadly, 'awful' DOES have two [still current-use] meanings.

One is 'bad, unpleasant or of low quality'

The other is 'very great'...as in 'awfully good' meaning 'very good', not 'bad good'.

My guess is that this was a language problem and not a 'bad' comment at all...

kind of like "nice"

grayhaze, why can't you just believe that you are not god's gift to skinning? Geez...what an ego!

KarmaGirl runs quickly away so that she doesn't get smacked with a dead trout by grayhaze...

yes, and I was joking in case anyone didn't understand..

What a coincidence... I just got emailed something from a 'visitor' of my website, and it sounds much the same; basically stating that they like my work but hate something else about it, and generally being rude about the whole thing.

Here is a copy of the email I got:
------------------------
I visited you're site, looking for some free icons, to try and see if I would enjoy a different looking desktop. I found icons by the bushel. Many that are truly art works.

Most of them didn't add any special programing . I've been trying to get rid of you're closing picture, the one that shows me a picture of Dark Project studios when I turn my computer on or off. I don't enjoy viewing you're advertising. And I don't remember asking to have it installed on my computer I would certainly like to remove it. I didn't ask to have it installed, and now I find myself having to ask, to have it removed. I'm not a programer, so I'm asking. Maybe someday I'll learn how to do code. Then I wont have to ask

This has truly been a unpleasant experience.

------------------------

The thing that is even more puzzling is I don't even know what the hell they are talking about since my icons are just .ico files and they couldn't install a single thing on their PC, let alone change their start up and shutdown screens.

The last line just tops it off for me though "This has truly been a unpleasant experience." ... ROFL, where the hell do these people come from?

or, a common thing that I see when somebody doesn't like a virus email that has your email address spoofed on it: "piss off".  (Oh, the tales of tech support email....)
